Why 13 Really is Unlucky

The number 13 has always been considered a bit unlucky. To reinforce the fact that for some girls, 13 is the unluckiest of all numbers, BVK volunteers painted 13’s all round the city, as well as held a flashmob in downtown Milwaukee with over 100 residents wearing “13″ t-shirts and holding signs with the number “13″ on them. The guerilla stunt stopped traffic and drove the media crazy as the campaign’s message was revealed with a transit campaign that explained that 13 was the average age that a girl was put into sex trafficking in Milwaukee. The campaign directed parents and kids to go to the website, Unlucky13.org where they could learn prevention tips and parents could learn the warning signs.. A social media effort campaign was also launched, as thousands of people changed their profile pictures to the number 13 for the month. The effort generated over 6 million media impressions about this important issue.
