New Mexico Social Media Effort One of Biggest in Country

When the government’s website (HealthCare.gov) failed, the NMHIX social media channel was launched to respond to and pro-actively produce content addressing enrollment questions even as the federal site was inaccessible. By the end of Open Enrollment, NMHIX was ranked as the country’s 3rd largest health insurance exchange community on Facebook,  the 3rd largest health insurance exchange on Twitter, and its YouTube video views placed NMHIX only behind California for most video views by a state exchange, making New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange one of the most well-rounded presences and most engaged audiences in the nation, despite the state’s small population. And by the end of Open Enrollment, NMHIX enrolled 34,000 individuals in health insurance plans and 164,000 New Mexicans had enrolled in the state’s Medicaid program.
