Far be it for humble Mainers to toot their own horn. But a bicentennial is a pretty big deal that deserves some attention. Just without all of the pomp and circumstance you might expect from the other 49 states. We had to acknowledge the special occasion, and do it in a way that exuded pride, but didn’t come off as too boastful. To celebrate, this campaign reflects the people, place and perspectives that have made Maine, uniquely Maine for 200 years.
Recognizing the need to give users an interactive experience that mirrors the unique, authentic travel experience Maine offers, The Maine Thing Quarterly was born. It’s an introspective deep-dive into niche topics iconic to Maine, but functions as a top-notch online feature publication.
The Maine print campaign reflects the singular experience that Maine delivers, first by using the authentic voices of Mainers and then evolving into work that is deeper, emotional, and even more personal.
BVK found untapped engagement potential in an old traditional medium. The newspaper crossword puzzle pages. In this campaign for the Maine Office of Tourism, BVK tailored ads for Maine to the puzzle itself — turning a potentially generic small space ad into something much more memorable, meaningful, and interactive.
VisitMaine.com provides travelers with a vast range of information and tools to explore their “Maine Thing”. The site is rich with maps, stories, photos and videos of things to do and experience in Maine, as well as listings for Maine businesses and organizations.
Call it a brochure — or call it a little booklet that fits in your pocket. This unique fact-filled page-turner was a nice surprise to attendees of travel and trade shows who visited the Maine Office of Tourism booth. The book included fun facts, overviews of some Maine’s most alluring treasures, a listing of valid Maine tourism related websites and a fold out map.
